 Blue October News 2004
Wow how quickly things can change. After signing with Brando Records and releasing "History For Sale" on April 8th 2003 Blue October found themselves blowing up all over all over Texas radio. It's really great to see what an amazing band can do with a lot of hard work and dedication to their music, listeners, while constantly staying on the road. In the last year Brando and RainMaker has been in awe of the amazing connection Blue October has with their fans. It would be hard for anyone not to be inspired when you see how meaningful this connection is. This magic will eventually happen on an even grander scale. It's only a matter of time.
By the 1st week of May 2003 and only one month after our release of "History For Sale" Blue October was in New York showcasing for several different labels and sizing up where they felt their new major label home should be. Of all places none of us, even the band, ever thought we'd be back at Universal. But that's exactly what happened. The very same people who had kicked Blue October to the curb a few years earlier were back and looking to make things right. The band and Brando were blown away with their sincerity and commitment. It's a decision we're all very happy we made. Universal Records is a great company with a very genuine and talented group of people who are now fighting for Blue October every single day. They realize Blue October is for the long haul and not some disposable one song driven band. They know Blue October will be making records for many moons to come. They know the band is real and with each passing day more and more people are discovering the music and making that emotional connection with the band.
The rest of 2004 is looking pretty amazing as Blue October's "Calling You" just debuted at #34 on the airplay charts. We're getting more and more airplay all across the country. The video has also been given some rotation on MTV2 and Fuse TV. The band also just recently hosted MTV 2's "Subterranean". In fact it was MTV2's first broadcast of the show in 2004. The band is now doing what they do best. Playing shows, connecting with fans, making friends and looking forward to the future.
2003
Blue October are undeniably one of the best and hardest working bands actively writing, recording and touring in the U.S. today. Starting with the soul touching songwriting of Justin Furstenfeld, all the way through the meticulous crafting of their albums and their relentless commitment to touring, Blue October delivers the goods.
You'll be hard pressed to find a more loyal group of fans, than Blue October fans. For almost a year now, their shows have been packed with rabid fans shouting, singing and screaming the words to songs that have not even been released.
This quintet from Texas has acquired quite a history over the years. It started in 1997 with The Answers, the bands indie debut. With no record company support or management, Blue October managed to sell over 5,000 copies of this record in Houston, TX alone.
With their record flying off the shelves and sold out shows around Houston under their belt, the band took a shot at the majors when Universal Records came calling. In mid-2000, they followed up The Answers with the compelling major label debut, Consent To Treatment which showcased Justin's true gift for songwriting.
As it can happen in the majors, Consent To Treatment wasn't treated so well and the band went rocketing on the major label rollercoaster that ended with the band being dropped from the label. Most bands crumble. Most stay down for the count. Not Blue October. They picked themselves back up and passionately hit the road continuing to support Consent... with no label support.
Show after show, city after city their fanbase grew. In 2002, a year after they were dropped by Universal, the band played nearly 200 shows across 20 states and saw most of their shows reach sell-out capacity.
Now, that is some history. Armed with passionate songs culled over days, months, years of ups and downs, Justin and the boys hit the studio in early 2003, and are now putting the finishing touches on their Brando Records debut, History For Sale.
